Better late than never.
My latest book has finally hit the book stores. Avery, my
publisher, had a snag with the printers and thus all of their releases for 2025
were delayed beyond most of the Great Lakes tourist season. That means we missed out on our peak sales for 2025. Normally when I go
up to the lakes to do my annual book signing tour I sign about 400 books… this
year, I signed just 44. The good news is that the book is now out and selling
well.
The cover is what I like the best. It is an original work of
art by Doris Sampson and depicts the lakeboats WILLIAM CLAY FORD and ARTHUR M.
ANDERSON as they venture out in search of survivors of the missing EDMUND
FITZGERALD. Considering that this year is the 50th anniversary of
that vessel’s loss, I found it to be fitting.
This book contains not just the tales of disaster and loss
of life, but up-lifting tales of survival and some stories of average folks whose
names were long forgotten until I re-discovered them. Aside from an opening rant about what B.S. the "Great Lakes triangle" is... which I now regret writing... overall, I think it is
one of my best work so far.
